Summary

The Student Communications Intern supports the Schmidthorst College of Business by developing and executing strategic digital content that enhances brand visibility, strengthens student engagement and promotes college initiatives. This role focuses on social media management, content creation, digital communications and website management, with a strong emphasis on maintaining a cohesive and engaging brand presence.

Essential Functions

  • Student Communications Intern must be able to:
  • Assist the Communications and Events Specialist in creating and implementing content across social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook), including scheduling posts through Buffer and helping maintain monthly content calendars that support college campaigns and events.
  • Create visually engaging graphics and marketing materials using Canva to support social media, digital marketing initiatives and email communications.
  • Draft clear, audience-focused copy for social media posts, email communications, and website content, with guidance and review from the communications and events specialist.
  • Support the maintenance and updating of website content, utilizing AEM training and established brand guidelines to help ensure accuracy, consistency, and a strong digital presence.
  • Contribute ideas and creative content recommendations to support student engagement, event promotion and awareness initiatives.
  • Help maintain and reinforce the Schmidthorst College of Business brand by creating content that aligns with established messaging, visual standards, and communication goals.
  • Collaborate closely with the Communications and Events Specialist to support content development, campaigns and communications that align with college priorities and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Experience managing or contributing to social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook).
  • Proficiency in Canva or similar design tools for creating digital graphics and marketing assets.
  • Familiarity with social media scheduling and management tools (e.g., Buffer).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clear, audience-focused content.
  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring content accuracy, brand consistency, and professional presentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work independently or collaboratively.
  • Positive team-oriented mindset, capable of collaborating with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
  • Interest in marketing, communications, and brand strategy with a willingness to learn and grow in a professional setting.
