    Job Description

    The Student Conduct Officer is a core member of Community Standards and plays an integral role in the learning and development of Syracuse University students. The Conduct Officer manages a full case portfolio of cases per year from intake through resolution. Additionally, this conduct officer shall be the designated lead investigator for the department. Some evening and weekend hours as needed

    Education and Experience

    • Master's degree with three (3) or more years of full-time experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Skills and Knowledge

    • Experience in responding to and investigating complaints
    • Experience coordinating with other offices to accomplish goals
    • Experience writing case reports and/or investigation reports
    • Ability to appropriately refer parties to support providers
    • Professional experience in a university student conduct office
    • Participation in trainings on the topics of investigations
    • Ability to maintain privacy and conduct sensitive investigations
    • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
    • Excellent writing skills
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • Experience working with students, families/supporters, and faculty/staff in a college/university setting
    • Two or more years of experience with student conduct practices in a college or university preferred

    Responsibilities

    • Manage a case load of approximately 150-250 cases per year (intake through final resolution of a case as needed.
    • Assist in the recruitment, selection, and training of conduct boards and procedural advisors, and case presenters. Advise Conduct Board hearings with sanction ability up to expulsion (some nights and weekends may be required).
    • Serve as lead investigator for high-level/complex cases. Investigate alleged student/student organization misconduct and prepare comprehensive, unbiased investigative reports. Collaborate with campus partners on investigations, including Student Engagement, Student Title IX, Department of Public Safety, Equal Opportunity, Inclusion, and Resolution Services (EOIRS), and others. Oversee departmental standards for investigations and provide training to other conduct officers on investigation techniques.
    • Manage the No Contact Order (NCO) process for students.
    • Assist the Associate Director with trainings, formal Title IX resolutions, and training conduct officers and campus partners
