General Function
Provide short-term mental health and academic counseling to Central Piedmont students. Engage in mental health crisis interventions as needed. Assist students in accessing a variety of wraparound support services. Conduct trainings, workshops, and outreach efforts. Assist students in determining educational, vocational, and personal goals. Participate in cross-unit collaborations to facilitate student success.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide personal counseling for students to support mental health, emotional well-being, positive behaviors, and healthy relationships that foster student success and personal wellness; engage in crisis interventions; refer students to campus or community resources as appropriate;
Counsel students on overcoming individual academic challenges and facilitate referrals for additional academic and tutoring assistance;
Maintain files on activities; gather and record information in order to track progress of individual students;
Develop and conduct workshops, groups, outreach efforts, and special events that promote student mental health and encourage help-seeking behaviors;
Consult with faculty and staff regarding student concerns; conduct trainings to promote mental health awareness and knowledge of resources;
Advise students holistically, including career choices, curriculum options, academic planning, college policies, personal assistance, and academic support, and community resources;
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements and Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in counseling discipline, including Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy, and one (1) year full-time counseling experience, or equivalent part-time experience (including masters-level internship).
