    What We Want

    We are seeking a Student Development Specialist II to join the Student Media team within Student Life. The ideal candidate has experience advising student media organizations, strong written and verbal communication skills, is highly organized and collaborative, and is familiar with Adobe Creative Suite, NCAA and SEC media guidelines.

    SalaryRange: $51,750 - 56,000/annually.

    Responsibilities

    Advisory & Support

    • Secondary adviser to the three student organizations: The Battalion newspaper, The Aggieland yearbook, and the Maroon Life yearbook. Helps oversee budget and expenditure. Attend and maintain annual required student organization adviser training. Support the student editors and other organizational leadership positions as requested. Assists with the supervision of any students in the assigned program areas. Provide students with leadership development opportunities and ensure they are properly trained to be successful. Supports students through timely response in various reports and refers students to resources as needed. 

    Administrative/Liaison

    • Assist and support the Associate Director with the daily production of The Battalion online, weekly print edition of The Battalion, at least six times a year for Maroon Life magazine, and the yearly production of The Aggieland yearbook. Collaborate in developing students staffers in news, advertising, production, and distribution to assure timely and efficient use of personnel and materials. Assist in creating a robust Student Media that provides all students with varied journalism exposure through a multiplatform experience and help align the unit with the strategic vision of a broad learning laboratory for journalism education across campus.

    Advertising, Sales & Distribution

    • Work collaboratively with on and off campus partners to grow the role of Student Media across a number of media platforms. Assists the student-led business team coordinate the sale of advertising and yearbooks, including billing, collection, distribution, and inventory control. Supports students with the facilitation of meeting potential clients for advertising.

    University/Division/Department Duties

    • Serves on university and other committees and task forces as well as in a volunteer capacity in support of the Division and Department. Represents the department in appropriate activities on and off campus in addition to participating in state, regional, and national organizations.

    Qualifications

    Required Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • One year of experience in student affairs work or related specialty.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience Advising student media groups at the secondary or college level

    • Involvement in relevant national student media advising groups

    • Experienced with trends within journalism

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing

    • Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff

    • Excellent communication and presentation skills

    • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

    • Working knowledge of Adobe Suite

    • Knowledge of computers and pre-press and printing processes

    • Working knowledge of online and multimedia platforms

    • Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups

    • Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies

    • Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff, groups of various sizes

    • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
