Job Description Summary

Athletics department is hiring for the position of Lifeguard - Weight Room Attendant.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The Student Rec Center is multi -purpose hub for physical fitness and social connection for students. The weight room caters to all levels of consumers from casual to elite athletes.

POSITION SUMMARY, ROUTINE TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

A lifeguard's primary duty is to ensure the safety of all swimmers and prevent accidents. They are to maintain continuous surveillance, enforce facility rules, and respond to emergencies.

• Lifeguard must be currently lifeguard and first aid certified.
• Hazard Inspections: Check pool equipment and water conditions daily for safety issues.
• Water Quality: Conduct chemical residual tests (chlorine, pH levels) and log readings as required by local health codes.
• Facility Maintenance: Keep the pool deck clear of debris, sweep and mop deck, wipe down seating area and help keep clean associated areas like locker rooms.

Additional Duties as Front Desk Attendant:

• Welcome Desk/Access Control: Greeting patrons, verifying student IDs, and managing facility walk-ins.
• Answering Inquiries: Providing information about fitness classes, intramural sports leagues, building hours, and facility rules
• Routine Upkeep: Performing frequent walkthroughs to ensure the weight room and cardio areas are free of hazards and stocked with machine cleaning products.
• Equipment Re-racking: Organizing dumbbells, weight plates, and yoga mats into their proper storage locations.
• Facility Hygiene: Wiping down exercise machines, cleaning windows or mirrors, and keeping lounge area clean.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Registered full-time SSU student
• Eligible to work in the United States
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and follow instructions
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media platforms
• Follow SSU dress code policy
