Position Summary

The Library and Tutoring Assistant plays a key role in providing front-line customer service. Responsibilities include greeting andassistingstudents and visitors, answering phone calls, and responding to general inquiries with professionalism and courtesy. The employee also helps fellow studentslocateresources,navigate library and academic support services, and connect withappropriate campusresources.

In addition to supporting students, the employee assists MCC Library and Tutoring and Academic Support Center (TASC) staff with day-to-day tasksandprojects, andcontributes to a welcoming and efficient environment.This position is ideal for students looking to build communication, teamwork, customer service, technology, problem-solving, and project management skills in a supportive, service-focused setting.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and student-centered environment that supports learning, academic success, and engagement.
  • Greet andassiststudents, faculty, staff, and community members in a welcoming and professional manner.
  • Connect students with services, including library resources, tutoring, study groups, and other academic support services.
  • Maintain regular communication with staff by regularly checking andmonitoring MCC email and Microsoft Teams communications ina timelyand professional manner.
  • Answer, screen, and appropriately transfer phone calls and respond to general inquiries.
  • Assist students with printing and basic technology questions or refer them to the IT Help Desk, asappropriate.
  • Refer research-related questions to a Reference Librarian and assist students with scheduling research appointments, as needed.
  • Support circulationand tutoringdesk operations as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date signage, displays, and informational materials.
  • Help maintain clean, organized, and welcoming spaces.
  • Participate in a semester-long project that supports Library and TASCservices, resources, outreach,data collection, or student engagement initiatives.
  • Sign students in and out of study groups and otherLibrary and TASCservices, following established procedures.
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with Library and TASC staffregardingschedules, responsibilities, and ongoing projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be enrolled in 6 credit hours at MCC
  • Must hold a minimum of a 2.0 GPA (Ifyou'rea first semester student, GPA requirement is waived)

Skills and Specifications:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to sit, walk, and stand up to 4 hours
  • Ability to list, push, or pull 25lbs
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office 365 products
  • Ability to use office equipment (copier, multi-line phone, etc.)

UPON HIRE:

  • Background Check
  • Completion of New Employee Training
  • Must be currently enrolled in at least 6 credit hours for Fall/Spring semester
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above (if first semester student, GPA requirement is waived)
  • If student qualifies for Federal Work Study, the student will be hired as a Federal Work Study employee to utilize these funds.
