Required Related Experience: • Experience working with youth in school or community setting is preferred but not required. • Experience in public speaking is preferred. • Experience successfully utilizing tools such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. • Be highly motivated, energetic, dependable, and knowledgeable.
Physical Requirements: None
Shift: 10-15 hours a week, M-F times will vary. Applicant must have one day of full availability in order to facilitate presentations. Please include your weekly availability.
Job Summary
No prior knowledge on the topic of tobacco use or public health is needed. The program will provide comprehensive training.
The position may be used to fulfill practicum hours if needed.
Position Objective
To provide tobacco use prevention services to youth, families, and community members across Kentucky.
Position Description
Supervised by the Program Director, the Youth Prevention Specialist works in schools and communities to facilitate tobacco use prevention services based on the iCANendthetrend framework, which includes:
Position Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with schools, parent-teacher groups, civic organizations, church groups, and other youth and community organizations to provide information and awareness on youth tobacco use, including e-cigarettes. • Implement peer-to-peer prevention program to provide information and awareness on youth tobacco use, including e-cigarettes. • Assist in providing orientation or information sessions for parents, teachers, staff, or administrators in target area schools and community sites when requested. • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director to meet program objectives.

Preferred Education and Experience
• Pre-employment criminal background check and employment background check as required by school districts. • Evidence-based curriculum training must be obtained within 1 month of employment and prior to in-school or related program delivery. This will be provided through the position.
