JOB DESCRIPTION

The First Gen+ Support Center Peer Coach position is designed to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all incoming and current TRIO participants. Coaches are successful role models and act as tutors, mentors, and provide campus connections. Peer Coaches will report directly to the TRIO Coordinators.

We are hiring a TRIO Peer Coach & Tutorbeginning in the Fall 2026 semester. We will completing interviews during the remainder of the Spring and Summer 2026 semesters, and onboarding training will be available virtually or in person. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Welcome and maintain coaching relationships with a case load of TRIO Program participants by providing academic support and locating campus resources.
  • Tutor participants in specific courses and/or content based on strengths as determined by grades and interest.
  • Offer support, patience, and enthusiasm while guiding and challenging participants to new levels of competence and excellence.
  • Maintain contact with each participant on your case load every other week or as determined.
  • Develop individualized plans with TRIO professional staff to address the academic needs and life skills of the participant.
  • Assist the participant in prioritizing responsibilities by strategizing their time management skills for a healthy balance of school, work, and self-care.
  • Contact participants about upcoming events and support connections to campus.
  • Assist TRIO professional staff with office duties, projects, and assist with events as needed.
  • Maintain weekly paperwork with accuracy and detail and submit to a Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Attend mandatory monthly staff meetings and trainings to stay informed about TRIO events and programming.

Expectations:

  • Communicate openly with the TRIO staff about professional challenges, participant concerns, and general feedback.
  • Peer Coaches are required to adhere to the highest ethical standards and always respect the confidentiality of TRIO participants. Confidentiality training will be provided.
  • Coaches are expected to arrive on time to all scheduled shifts, appointments, and meetings.

Qualifications: 

  • Currently enrolled student in good standing at Colorado Mesa University; has attended the University for at least 2 semesters.
  • Possess a cumulative GPA of 2.6 or higher and maintain a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Have classification of sophomore or higher at time of active employment.

Preferred Qualification: 

  • While all majors are encouraged to apply, we are especially looking for students in Business, STEM, and Spanish tutors.

Position Compensation:  

  • $15.25/hr. Must adhere to campus student worker policies.
  • 5-12 hours/week on average, although this depends on student schedule availability and semester to semester funding. Additional hours may be available.
