The Health Aide provides individualized health and personal care support to a student with identified medical, physical, or health-related needs during the school day. Working under the direction of the School Nurse and school administration, the Health Aide assists the student in accessing educational opportunities safely while promoting independence, dignity, and inclusion within the school environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide one-to-one health support for an assigned student throughout the school day.
Implement health care procedures as outlined in the student''s Individualized Healthcare Plan (IHP), Emergency Care Plan, Section 504 Plan, or Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Monitor and document the student''s health status, symptoms, and responses to interventions.
Accompany the student throughout the school building, on field trips, and during school-sponsored activities as assigned.
Observe for signs of illness, injury, or medical emergencies and respond according to established protocols.
Administer medications or perform delegated health-related tasks only as authorized and trained by the School Nurse and permitted by state regulations.
Maintain accurate records and documentation of services provided.
Communicate effectively with the School Nurse, teachers, therapists, administrators, and parents/guardians regarding student health concerns.
Maintain confidentiality of all student information in accordance with applicable privacy laws and district policies.
Promote student independence by providing the minimum level of assistance necessary for success and safety.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of basic healthcare and emergency response procedures.
Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
Ability to recognize changes in a student''s condition and seek assistance when appropriate.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary educational team.
Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.
Work Schedule
School-year position; hours and schedule determined by the needs of the assigned student and district.
