I. DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

Job Description Summary:

The Student Health Insurance Coordinator acts as a liaison between students, vendors, providers, and the university, providing information and access to enrollment information for the GW student health insurance program to all GW students. This position manages all aspects of campus hard waiver and voluntary insurance plans.

The Student Health Insurance Coordinator will be responsible for the following:

  • Works with students to ensure they have proper health insurance as required by the university. This includes reviewing documentation provided by international students on F-1 and J-1 visas to determine eligibility for and, when appropriate, grants exemptions from automatic enrollment in the University's health insurance plan.
  • Identifies and recommends changes for annual policy, such as benefits, premiums, brochure designs, marketing techniques etc., and implements these improvements. Coordinates the bidding and contracting process as they pertain to the University's student health insurance plan.
  • Stays current on active and pending legislation related to healthcare that may impact the Student Health Insurance Plan and advises Director, SHC Administration & Operations and the University's insurance carrier accordingly.
  • Coordinates efforts to evaluate the Student Health Insurance program by collecting and monitoring student satisfaction and participating in the quality monitoring and improvement process. Manages, monitors, and (when indicated) reconciles general expense and revenue accounts for the University's student insurance program.
  • Supports the billing process by accurately closing SHC patient tickets, preparing billing ledgers, and assisting students in identifying and utilizing alternative payment methods.
  • • Maintains a manual of policies and procedures pertaining to the University's student health insurance program.
  • Participates in orientation sessions for students and parents.

The position is based at GW's Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position
