The Student Health Physician provides comprehensive, patient-centered medical care exclusively to University of California, Riverside (UCR) students through Student Health Services. The Physician delivers high-quality primary and urgent care services that integrate medical treatment, prevention, health education, and holistic health principles, supporting student success, continuity of care, and whole-person wellness. Candidates may also be required to conduct a presentation as part of the interview process. The full salary range for the Student Health Physician is $152,157 - $390,471 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $275,000 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. Patient Care Provide appropriate primary care and outpatient medical and minor surgical diagnostic and treatment services to UCR students receiving care through Student Health Services, including evaluation, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic medical conditions. Utilize all clinical encounters as opportunities to provide health education and prevention services, supporting informed decision-making, risk reduction, and long-term wellness. Prescribe appropriate medications and therapies, including controlled substances when credentialed, in compliance with applicable federal and state laws and institutional policies. Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies, including laboratory testing and imaging, and integrate findings into individualized treatment plans. Make appropriate referrals for complicated diagnostic, procedural, or specialty medical problems, including referrals to behavioral health services, campus partners, or community providers as clinically indicated. Provide follow-up care as recommended, ensuring continuity of care, monitoring of clinical outcomes, and coordination across providers and services. Staff specialty clinics, which can include Women's Health and Triage/Urgent Care, providing timely assessment, treatment, and health education to a young adult population, consistent with training, credentialing, and approved clinical privileges. Integrate holistic health and wellness principles into patient care by addressing physical health, mental health, lifestyle factors, and social influences that impact student well-being and academic success. Identify and respond to emerging mental health concerns, providing initial assessment within scope and facilitating timely referral or warm handoff as appropriate.Other Duties Participate in shared governance and collaborative decision-making through membership on Student Health Services committees, workgroups, and interdisciplinary teams. Contribute to the development, review, and continuous improvement of clinical protocols, procedures, and policies to support high-quality, compliant, and student-centered care. Support and participate in student health education and prevention programs, including collaboration with health education staff and campus partners to promote wellness, disease prevention, and informed health behaviors. Engage in activities that support quality improvement, risk management, and accreditation readiness, as assigned. Collaborate with colleagues to advance operational effectiveness, clinical consistency, and best practices within Student Health Services.
Knowledge of primary care and outpatient medical practice for adolescent and young adult populations, including preventive care and patient education.Knowledge of preventive medicine, health promotion, and patient education principles.Knowledge of California laws and regulations governing medical practice, prescribing, and patient confidentiality.Skill in clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, prescribing, and follow-up care in accordance with evidence-based standards and applicable laws.Ability to provide patient-centered, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed care while maintaining professional ethics, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance.Ability to work effectively independently and within an interdisciplinary healthcare team, including coverage that may extend beyond a standard 8-hour workday.Ability to document accurately and timely in an electronic health record.Ability to stand for extended periods, safely lift and move up to 40 pounds, and perform clinical duties requiring manual dexterity and adequate visual and auditory acuity.Demonstrated ability to effectively understand, relate to, communicate with, and be understood by young adult patients from diverse backgrounds.Experience with or training in Medication Abortion (Med AB) services, or willingness to obtain training consistent with licensure and institutional policy.Experience with quality improvement, peer review, or accreditation activities in a healthcare setting.
