The Student Information System (SIS) Support Specialist is responsible for the management, maintenance, and support of the district's student data systems. This position ensures the accuracy, integrity, and security of student information while providing technical support and training to staff on the effective use of the SIS. The SIS Support Specialist serves as the primary contact for system configuration, troubleshooting, and data reporting to meet state and federal requirements. This role requires strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical users in a clear and supportive manner.
Essential Functions
Develop, maintain, and update training materials, user guides, and a comprehensive knowledge base; provide ongoing training and support to staff on system functionality, reporting, and best practices
Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with emerging technologies and share relevant updates; document procedures and communicate system changes effectively
Serve as the primary point of contact for the Student Information System (Skyward), providing system administration, user support, troubleshooting, and technical assistance
Manage and maintain Family and Student Access portals, staff access, and security permissions; configure, monitor, and update the SIS to ensure optimal performance and compliance with district, state, and federal requirements
Coordinate with IT staff and software vendors on system upgrades, integrations, and data security
Maintain accurate, secure, and confidential student records; perform data entry and manage cumulative files in compliance with policies and regulations
Assign WISEids and ensure alignment between Skyward and DPI systems (OPAL, WISEdata, WISEdash, and WISEid via Ed-Fi); evaluate and improve data integrity and reporting processes
Support Course Masters, course requests, future scheduling, and administrative scheduling tasks
Develop and manage the district's annual online registration process, including family communication; maintain student enrollment webpages and related platforms
Conduct year-end closeout, system rollover, and beginning-of-year setup for all SIS modules
Generate, schedule, and analyze reports for administrative staff, including data mining as needed
Prepare and submit required district, state, and federal reports, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance (e.g., enrollment, attendance, discipline, demographics, Child Count, Civil Rights Data Collection, End of Year reporting, pupil count)
Identify, recommend, and implement system and process improvements to enhance efficiency and meet district needs; provide responsive support to staff and stakeholders
Adhere to all district safety procedures and ensure compliance with applicable policies, regulations, and data privacy standards
