Student Programs Overview:

Graduate Opportunity

  • Graduate Engineer Development Program (GEDP)

GEDP is a one-year Indianapolis-based rotational program that focuses on developing technical problem-solving and leadership skills. Engineers will spend time in each of INDOT's engineering departments and upon completion of the program, will transition into their choice of assignment at INDOT; based on availability of positions, supervisor assessments, and the engineer's preference. The goal of the GEDP is to support the engineer's ability to learn as much about on-the-job civil engineering as possible, as well as fostering professional development and connecting the engineer with INDOT's wide network of civil engineering professionals. The GEDP is designed for INDOT's future leaders.

We're looking for entry-level civil engineers who aren't done learning, who want to start their career by contributing to the bigger picture. Does that sound like you? If so, we're looking for you!

Opportunities for Current Students

  • Governor's Summer Internship Program

Through the State of Indianas Governors Summer Internship program, INDOT welcomes a diverse group of college students each summer to join their team. An internship with INDOT is uniquely positioned to give you an in-depth understanding of what working for a state agency entails. Whether constructing new roads or working to maintain what we have, coordinating all these efforts takes a well-developed, qualified team.

We have available summer internships in many different divisions, including our many civil engineering areas, project management, communications, finance, human resources, information technology, legal services, and real estate, in addition to our career development and pipeline programs for civil engineering students.

  • Engineering Scholarship Program

If you're interested in shaping Indiana's infrastructure, gaining real-world experience, and exploring multiple areas of civil engineering before starting your career, consider applying for the INDOT Engineering Scholarship Program. Each year, INDOT awards competitive scholarships to engineering students committed to making an impact. Recipients receive $3,125 per semester, complete paid summer internships, and receive priority hiring after graduation. The scholarship can be used for undergraduate or graduate studies in civil engineering. Recipients commit to working one year for each academic year of scholarship support.
