POSITION OVERVIEW

PURPOSE OF DIVISION

Workforce Innovation and Development (WID) focuses on adding value to Houston Airport System's people resources so they can deliver the best results. Covers human resources functions, compensation, performance, and other key areas vital to the tactical and strategic vision and mission of HAS. Workforce Innovation and Development provides a process for optimizing the performance and efficiency of the organizations staff. It provides an overall strategy to guide talent attraction, recruitment, onboarding, employee training and development, performance appraisal and feedback.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

This Student Intern program is designed to give students access to many different divisions within the airports organizational structure. The goal is to allow students the opportunity to help identify what he or she would like to specialize in post-graduation. Though the Student Intern can expect to interact with various divisions at HAS, they will primarily operate under overall direction of the Workforce Innovation and Development. The Student Intern will learn the needs of an airports in the day-to-day operations dealing with tenants, passengers, and other airport administration. Additionally, the intern will be expected to accurately complete assigned projects and tasks in relation to aviation management.

Other duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Learn about area of career interest by observing and assisting professionals in their daily activities.
  • Assist in the coordination, administration and/or monitoring of specific programs.
  • Perform general administrative, analytical and operating activities associated with a specific program.
  • Research topics pertinent to specific area of study and work.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking and standing. There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a video display terminal. Requires the ability to make coordinated gross motor movements in response to changing external stimuli within moderately demanding tolerances; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within low tolerance demands with no real speed requirements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

Requires the ability and knowledge for analysis and interpretation of procedures, policies and practices attainable through specific education and/or training programs in a specialty or technical field. (Individuals are college students)
