    Job Summary:

    The Student Trainee supports client care through observation, participation, and supervised involvement in treatment activities. This role assists with identifying client strengths and needs, supporting group activities, monitoring client wellbeing, and contributing to a positive treatment environment. Through job shadowing, professional development opportunities, and direct program involvement, trainees gain valuable insight into clinical and support roles while developing practical skills for future careers in healthcare and human services.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Observe and participate in treatment services under supervision to develop professional skills and enhance client care.
    • Co-facilitate educational and recreational groups that promote client engagement, growth, and recovery.
    • Assist with identifying client needs, strengths, and challenges as part of the treatment process.
    • Support admission and orientation activities, including obtaining vital signs, conducting safety searches, and collecting urine or laboratory specimens when applicable.
    • Monitor client activities, interactions, and participation while ensuring client safety and accountability.
    • Document observations and communicate concerns regarding client behaviors or treatment needs to appropriate team members.
    • Participate in staff meetings, treatment team meetings, and training sessions to increase professional knowledge and program awareness.
    • Assist in screening and monitoring detoxification clients to support safety and recovery needs when assigned to adult programs.
    • Maintain awareness of precaution protocols and complete required documentation accurately and timely.
    • Serve as a positive role model for clients by demonstrating professionalism, respect, and supportive interactions.
    • Adhere to agency policies, ethical standards, confidentiality requirements, and professional conduct expectations.
    • Contribute to the overall success and functioning of the program through teamwork and active participation.

    Education, Experience, and/or Credential Qualifications:

    • Current enrollment in a Bachelor's, Master's, or Nursing program is required for internship eligibility.
    • Basic understanding of behavioral health, substance use treatment, case management, rehabilitation services, or related human services concepts is preferred.
    • Ability to learn and apply program policies, procedures, and treatment practices.

    Additional Qualifications:

    • Successful completion of background screenings including criminal history, driving record, abuse/neglect, and fingerprint checks.
    • Current driver's license, acceptable driving record, and current automobile insurance.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to establish positive rapport with clients and team members.
    • Knowledge of confidentiality requirements related to mental health and substance use treatment services.
    • Ability to work effectively within a team environment while maintaining professionalism.
    • Basic computer proficiency and ability to use software applications required for documentation and communication.
    • Ability to adapt to changing situations and follow established policies and procedures.

    Physical Requirements

    • Perform sedentary work involving exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
    • Use hands, fingers, and arms frequently for typing, writing, and other repetitive tasks.
    • Sit for extended periods throughout the workday.
    • Occasionally stand or walk for brief periods while performing job responsibilities.
    • Maintain the physical ability to perform duties in a professional office or treatment setting.
