Develop practical experience in Civil Engineering by researching utility records, reviewing construction plans, and preparing permits and written correspondence related to permit processing and customer inquiries
Review permit applications for completeness and assist with tracking application status.
Prepare permit exhibits, maps, and supporting documentation.
Research Valley Water property ownership, easements, and right-of-way information using Geographic Information System (GIS) maps, County Assessor records, and engineering documents.
Respond to USA (Underground Service Alert) tickets by researching GIS maps, records, and Valley Water facilities to determine whether proposed excavation activities may affect Valley Water infrastructure.
Assist with the annual update of Valley Water's land rights on County Assessor map books, including approximately 10,000 pages each year.
Assist with maintaining permit and project records in Valley Water's database.
Basic knowledge of civil engineering principles and engineering terminology.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, maps, and construction plans.
Familiarity with Geographic Information System (GIS) maps is desirable.
Basic understanding of surveying, utilities, and right-of-way concepts is a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple assignments.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Willingness to learn Valley Water policies, procedures, permit requirements, and engineering standard.

Student must be pursuing a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field and be in their sophomore year or beyond, with coursework applicable to the assigned duties.


Ability to pass Background, Drug Screen and if applicable Medical Screenings (i.e. Vision, Hearing, or Physical) if Required by Client.
