Job Title Student Life Coordinator (Harrison County Campus) Job Description
The Student Life Coordinator is responsible for creating a vibrant, inclusive, and engaging campus experience that supports student connection, leadership, involvement, and retention on a commuter campus. Reporting directly to the Dean of Student Services and Enrollment Management at the Harrison County Campus, this position works within Student Services to lead student life programming and support meaningful involvement opportunities for students.
Key responsibilities include planning and coordinating student engagement events, advising the Student Government Association (SGA) and Campus Activities Board (CAB), and supporting Reflections Team activities. This position also provides leadership and support for recognized student organizations and clubs, manages assigned Student Life budgets, and assists with major Student Services initiatives.
This position works closely with campus departments, district counterparts, and community partners to support safe events, student engagement, campus traditions, recruitment-related activities, and a strong sense of community.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication, sound professional judgment, organization, attention to detail, flexibility, and a service-oriented approach. This position requires the ability to manage multiple priorities and work occasional evening or weekend hours to support student activities, campus events, and student organization needs.
Job Duties
- Serve as the primary coordinator for student life activities and engagement events on the Harrison County Campus, including but not limited to Welcome Week, Fais Do Do, Fall Festival, Student Leadership Conference, Homecoming activities, and other campus traditions and student engagement events.
- Develop and implement creative, innovative, and inclusive programs and initiatives that support student engagement, increase participation, and help students feel connected to campus, particularly for a commuter student population.
- Lead event logistics, setup coordination, vendor coordination, space needs, and assessment for student life events and activities.
- Maintain and publish a campus calendar for student life activities.
- Advise the Student Government Association (SGA), including the executive board and representatives. Coordinate SGA elections, budgeting, leadership retreats, governance initiatives, SGA-led events, advocacy efforts, and opportunities that promote the student voice on campus.
- Advise the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and guide student engagement programming, campus activities, and related events.
- Provide leadership and support for recognized student organizations and clubs, including new club development, recognition, annual renewal, advisor support, officer updates, membership records, required documentation, and compliance with college procedures.
- Serve as a resource for student organization advisors, officers, and members regarding college policies, event planning, fundraising, travel, publicity, deposits, fund requests, and other required approval processes.
- Facilitate Interclub Council meetings to support communication among student organizations and assist with planning campus-wide activities.
- Support Reflections Team activities and assist with the selection, training, development, and support of team members, including supervision during assigned activities as needed.
- Promote student leadership development for SGA, CAB, Reflections Team members, and other student leaders through meetings, workshops, retreats, conferences, and other co-curricular opportunities.
- Manage assigned Student Life budgets, including budget planning, procurement, P-Card purchases, purchase tracking, budget monitoring, and reconciliation in accordance with college financial policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records and reports for student life activities and engagement, including attendance, program assessment, required documentation, and other related records.
- Monitor student life and student organization compliance with college policies, Student Handbook expectations, financial procedures, and risk management guidelines.
- Coordinate Student Life communications and outreach, including social media content, email distribution lists, student contact lists, digital signage, campus announcements, and marketing requests as appropriate.
- Develop and promote volunteer opportunities, service projects, and campus or community drives in partnership with local organizations when appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Student Services team to support the planning and execution of major campus and college-wide events, including New Student Orientation, registration events, awards programs, graduation/commencement activities, Bulldog Day, campus tours, prospective student events, summer camps, and other assigned events.
- Represent the college at local high schools, community events, and with community groups and organizations.
- Collaborate with Student Life counterparts at other campuses to share information, coordinate district-wide student events, support consistency, and assist with college-wide traditions and initiatives.
- Provide general support and advisement to prospective students and parents; refer students to appropriate campus or community resources when student needs or behavior concerns are identified.
- Maintain a visible, approachable, and student-friendly presence on campus, gather student feedback, and respond to student questions, concerns, and difficult situations with professionalism, patience, and sound judgment.
- Work a flexible schedule, including occasional evening and weekend hours, to support student activities, campus events, and student organization needs.
- Participate in appropriate campus and college committees, meetings, planning groups, and initiatives, as appointed.
- Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars to support professional development and stay current regarding student life, student engagement, student organization practices, event planning, and related higher education trends.
- Adhere to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Policy Handbook and support the college mission, values, and goals through professional service to students, employees, and community partners.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Services and Enrollment Management and/or the Vice President of the Harrison County Campus.
Mandatory Qualifications
(M1) Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in Education, Recreation, Communications, Marketing, Student Services, or a related field.
(M2) Experience planning, coordinating, or supporting events, programs, or activities.
(M3) Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
(M4) Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable Qualifications
(D1) Master's Degree in Education, Higher Education, Student Affairs, Student Services, or a related field.
(D2) Experience working in a community college or higher education setting.
(D3) Experience advising or working with student groups, student organizations, student activities, student life programming, or related student engagement initiatives.
