Position Overview:
The Student Machining Professional assists in supporting machining and manufacturing operations while attending the Advanced Manufacturing Program (AMP). Develops foundational and intermediate machining skills through hands-on training and coursework, including blueprint reading, precision measurement, CNC and manual machining, and shop safety. Rotates through assigned machining or production areas during the program to build broad technical exposure and practical application of classroom learning. Works under the direction of experienced machinists and manufacturing team members while accomplishing all program and academic objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Actively participate as a student in the Advanced Manufacturing / Machining Program (AMP)
- Attend required AMP coursework and labs while working on-site in assigned machining or manufacturing areas
- Attend class two days per week and work on site three days per week
- Demonstrate safe work behavior at all times, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to all safety policies and guidelines
- Support machining and production operations by completing assigned, time sensitive tasks under supervision
- Read and interpret basic blueprints, drawings, work instructions, and process documentation
- Assist with setup, operation, and monitoring of manual and CNC machining equipment in accordance with training level
- Use precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges) to verify part dimensions and quality
- Perform basic machining, deburring, finishing, and inspection tasks as assigned.
- Rotate through assigned machining or manufacturing areas to gain experience with various processes, equipment, and workflows
- Apply basic machining principles and problem solving skills to support production and quality requirements
- Assist experienced machinists and manufacturing personnel with setups, material handling, and shop organization
- Maintain tools, machines, and work areas in clean, organized, and safe conditions
- Accurately complete required documentation related to work activities, training progress, or program requirements
- Work with team leads, mentors, and instructors to support learning objectives and resolve issues
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and a willingness to learn and accept feedback
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of manufacturing operations and program objectives

Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
AND
- Accepted into Calhoun Community College via Admissions enrollment
AND
- Accepted and enrolled into Calhoun College’s AMT Applied Science Degree-Advanced Manufacturing

Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. - Must have organization skills and effective communication skills with both technical and professional staff
- Must be willing and able to work either first or second shift, as business needs require.
- Reliable transportation is required to travel to and from classes and assigned work shifts
- Must demonstrate passing grades each semester to remain in role
- Must demonstrate passing OJT (On Job Training) evaluations each semester to remain in program and role
- Must participate in all prescribed internal and external training
- Must rotate to different work teams different disciplines and different shifts to complete all training expectations
- Must be able to respond to safety issues and concerns
- Physical Requirements (Ability to do the following up to 10 hours per day):
o Walk, stand, sit, bend, twist/turn, kneel, squat, crawl
o Climb using both legs and arms
o Head/neck movement
o Reach outward or above the shoulder
o Drive or operate equipment such as lifts and/or motor vehicles
o Lift, carry, push, or pull 15-45 pounds
o Repetitive use of hands and fingers, both hands
o Use of vibrating tools
o Depth perceptions required
o Ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of color
o Exposure to constant and intermittent noises, fumes, smoke and gases, solvents, paint, grease and oils, radiant energy and slippery surfaces
