Summary of Duties

Provide direct care to residents as needed in accordance with care plan,policies and procedures, and nursing standards of care.

Essential Job Functions

1. Performlimited medication administration tasks as delegated by a licensed nurse.

2. Performmedication administration of oral, topical, eye, ear, nose, inhalant, rectaland vaginal medications.

3. Administerand document medication administration per physician's orders.

4. Compare the resident’s physician order and the MARand report any discrepancies to the nurse prior to administration of themedication.

5. Verifythe order matches the MAR/EMAR and the medication pack.

6. Documentthe administration of the medication appropriately on the MAR/EMAR.

7. Verifythe resident’s name, the medication name, dosage, route of administration andtime of administration prior to administering the medication.

8. Reportdiscrepancies and/or errors to the nurse.

9. Communicateobservations and/or changes in resident status to a nurse.

10. Reportresidents’ condition and shift occurrences to oncoming staff.

11. Assist the nurse in providing care to residents asneeded.

12. Maintain colostomies to include changing the device.

13. Seekguidance from the nurse as needed to perform tasks.

Education and Experience

Currently enrolled inan approved accredited school of nursing. Have completed andsuccessfully passed course work in pharmacology, medication administration andfundamentals of nursing.

Physical Requirements for Essential Job Functions

  1. Must be able to move about intermittently throughout the workday.
  2. Must be able to reach, bend, and/or stoop intermittently throughout the work day.
  3. Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  4. Must be able to push, pull, or move a minimum of 100 pounds utilizing proper body mechanics and assistance.
  5. Must be able to walk/stand 75% of the day.
  6. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
