Job Description:

This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) student office position for the School of Writing, Literature, and Film (SWLF) at Oregon State University (OSU).

SWLF hosts academic speakers, author readings, film screenings, and other events throughout the year. We are also home to OSU Story Lab, a printing press studio, and graduate programs in English and Creative Writing. This position helps with marketing, design, website maintenance, writing, and public relations work related to events and promoting our undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as some general office administration duties.

Position Duties

 Outreach and Marketing

• Designing posters, invitations, and other promotional materials

• Communicating with faculty/students/staff regarding School events

• Ordering materials from OSU Printing and Mailing

• Distributing outreach materials online, on campus, and in the community

Website and Social Media Management

• Managing content on social media platforms

• Updating the School website and creating new web content

• Promoting events on the School’s online calendar

General Office Support

• Assisting with SWLF event preparation and Advising programming

• Assisting students, faculty, and general public that come into main office

• Assisting with opening and closing duties in main office as needed

• Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study

• Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment

• Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

  • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program

  • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term

  • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*

  • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term

  • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Working Conditions/Schedule:

- Desk and customer service work in the School of Writing, Literature, and Film's front office.
- This position is on site and will have set hours in the office on weekdays. Afternoon availability preferred.
- The position will run for fall term, with the possibility of staying on through the full academic year.
