Job Description

Summary

The primary role for the Student Assistant is to assist with the provision of accommodations and general office tasks.

Essential Functions

  • Perform back-up receptionist duties. Greet customers in a friendly, timely, and professional manner; answer the phone and organize and sort mail; assist in appointment scheduling; and contact students regarding their accommodation applications.
  • Assist with various inquiries as appropriate, either by answering questions utilizing your own knowledge and in accordance with established departmental procedures or by directing to the appropriate staff member.
  • Execute tasks within the office database related to the implementation of accommodations, such as sending notification emails, running reports, and case noting interactions.
  • Run on-campus errands to the bookstore and/or classrooms.
  • Ensure the office is presentable by performing light cleaning duties such as dusting, vacuuming, and taking out trash and recycling.
  • Review uploaded peer notes to ensure timeliness and quality meets standards set by the office. Monitor Canvas trainings related to peer notetakers and record completion within the office database.
  • Assist staff with any projects as needed.

  • Maintain academic integrity.
  • Present a positive, professional image to the campus community on behalf of the Disability Center.
  • As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities is expected in order to serve the customer and maintain the Student Affairs mission.

Anticipated Hiring Range

$15.40 per hour, paid on a bi-weekly basis

Shift

Numbers of hours per week: 10-15

  • Available shifts are Monday/Wednesday: 8am-12pm, Tuesday/Thursday: 8am-5pm, Friday: 11am-5pm.

This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible for a student title, an individual must be enrolled at the University of Missouri. Enrollment in the summer session is not required if the student was enrolled in the Spring semester and is pre-enrolled for the Fall semester. Selection is contingent upon results of a review with the Office of Institutional Equity, Office of Student Accountability & Support, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, previous MU appointment history, and reference checks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and Word programs.
  • Ability to learn how to utilize new computer applications/programs.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as on a team.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Effective communication skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds.
  • Flexibility to work an irregular schedule. Hours may vary week to week depending on the needs of the department.
  • Good organizational skills and punctuality.
