Position Information

Winthrop Position Title Student Organizations & Leadership Graduate Associate Job Purpose

The position of Graduate Associate for Student Organizations and Leadership is designed to help create and facilitate a thriving out-of-class learning environment. The Graduate Associate for Student Organizations and Leadership helps advise student groups, coordinate student organization records, market and advertise university initiatives, and create opportunities for leadership development. This position also plans and supports university-wide events to enhance involvement opportunities for Winthrop students.

Duties and Responsibilities

Student Organization Management

  • Coordinate the training and re-registration of all 100+ student organizations and officers
  • Manage the record-keeping for all student organizations' contact information
  • Organize and maintain charter applications and documentation related to student groups

Leadership Development

  • Assist in designing and implementing major leadership initiatives and resources
  • Create and facilitate educational workshops on core topics for student organizations
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of educational programs for student organizations

University Programs and Initiatives

  • Coordinate promotions and logistics of Fall Involvement Fair and Spring Involvement Fair
  • Support the planning and development of the Leadership Institute for First-Timers (LIFT)
  • Promote student organizations and leadership at Preview Days and Worldwide Winthrop Day

Student Organization Facilities

  • Manage reservations for mailboxes, lockers, and conference room used by student organizations
  • Track supply needs for student organizations resource room

Miscellaneous

  • Create and distribute weekly newsletter to student leaders regarding upcoming campus events
  • Assist in maintaining office social media accounts and showcase student organization events.
  • Provide counsel and assistance to those with questions related to student organizations, getting involved, and leadership development
  • General office duties - assisting office staff when needed

Qualifications

This position requires previous involvement in student organizations or student activities at a college campus. Candidates must have an understanding and appreciation of the importance of college student involvement and leadership development. In order to maximize the graduate associate's educational growth and professional development, candidates must be enrolled in a Master's program consistent with the skills developed in this position (e.g. counseling and development, education, business administration, marketing, and/or programs associated with interpersonal communication and program planning).

Preferred Skills

This position requires excellent organizational skills and an ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally. Candidates should also be skilled at presenting information. The ideal candidate must be a team player, have initiative, and be able to multitask. Candidates should also be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, and Word. Demonstrated experience in using social media platforms. Prior experience and working knowledge with Adobe Creative Suite is preferred, but not necessary.
