JOB SUMMARY

The RISE TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) program is seeking motivated, academically strong student leaders to serve as Peer Tutors for the 2026-2027 academic year. Peer Tutors play a vital role in supporting the academic success of our diverse student population through one-on-one and small-group tutoring. In addition to content-area tutoring, tutors will actively contribute to our program's scholarly community by facilitating workshops on scholarly development and financial literacy.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

* Academic Tutoring: Provide high-quality individual and small-group tutoring to students in foundational biology courses (including General Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, or Anatomy & Physiology).

* Workshop Facilitation: Prepare and present at least one (1) Scholarly Development program and one (1) Financial Literacy program to RISE students during the semester.

* Resource Sharing: Guide students on effective study strategies, active recall techniques, time management, and biology exam preparation.

* Progress Tracking: Maintain accurate and timely records of tutoring sessions and student progress.

* Professional Development: Attend all mandatory tutor training sessions, staff meetings, and professional development workshops.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Academic Standing: Must have earned a minimum grade of A- in the specific Biology course(s) you wish to tutor (e.g., General Biology I & II).

* GPA Requirement: Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher.

* Financial Aid: Must be eligible for Federal Work-Study (FWS).

* Enrollment: Must be a currently enrolled student at Seton Hall University.

* Please note: While this position is funded through the RISE TRiO SSS program, you do not need to be a RISE student to apply.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Strong understanding of foundational biological concepts and lab procedures.

* Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.

* Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping peers achieve their academic goals in STEM.

* Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, or leadership roles is preferred.
