STUDENT RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Student Radiologic Technologist will assist in providing radiology services while providing exceptional care to patients in a busy, high-paced orthopedic setting. This position is intended for a student currently enrolled in a Radiologic Technology (ARRT) program who is looking to gain additional experience in orthopedic radiography while working alongside experienced technologists.

Applicants must have strong patient care and communication skills, be motivated to learn, and work well as part of a team. This is a part-time position specifically supporting the OCC Lowry clinic on Tuesday mornings.


STUDENT RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assist with and perform X-ray examinations on patients under appropriate supervision and within the student's permitted scope; confirm the appropriate exam has been ordered; prepare and position patients for X-ray examinations; obtain risk of pregnancy information when applicable; and select appropriate exposure factors on X-ray equipment.
  • Operate radiographic and processing equipment under appropriate supervision; review images for positioning and accuracy; submit images to providers for review; and complete procedures while maintaining quality of work within an established time frame.
  • Perform routine radiographic examinations within the student's level of training while practicing radiation safety (ALARA) procedures.
  • Assist with patient positioning and maintaining efficient patient flow in a busy orthopedic clinic.
  • Work alongside experienced Radiologic Technologists to further develop orthopedic positioning, technique, and image evaluation skills.
  • Maintain clean, stocked, and organized X-ray rooms and equipment.
  • Assist with additional department duties during downtime, such as maintaining/scanning medical records into the EMR system, assisting with outside imaging, and preparing X-ray CDs upon patient request.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and follow all OCC policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
STUDENT RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • Currently enrolled in an approved/accredited course of study in Radiologic Technology.
  • Must be in good standing with their Radiologic Technology program.
  • Completion of clinical education appropriate to the duties performed in this position.
  • Ability to work with a diverse patient population in an orthopedic setting.
  • Strong patient care and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work effectively as a member of a healthcare team.
  • Willingness to learn and accept feedback from supervising technologists and providers.
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Experience with electronic medical record systems and picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) preferred but not required.
STUDENT RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Typical medical office and orthopedic clinic environment.
  • Constant viewing of computer monitors, mousing, and typing.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Frequent stooping, lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling 10 pounds or more.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent assistance with positioning patients with injuries, limited mobility, or postoperative restrictions.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to safely perform assigned duties within the student's current level of education, training, and permitted scope.
SCHEDULE:

This is a limited part-time position at the OCC Lowry clinic, primarily scheduled for Tuesday mornings.

Typical hours are expected to be approximately 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, based on clinic needs.

$25.00 per hour

Requirements:

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • Must be in good standing with their Radiologic Technology program.
  • Must have begun clinical rotations and have experience performing basic radiographic examinations under supervision.
  • Must be available to work Tuesday mornings at the OCC Lowry clinic.
  • Basic knowledge of radiographic positioning, anatomy, radiation safety, and ALARA principles.
  • Strong patient care and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced orthopedic environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Radiologic Technologists, providers, medical assistants, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Willingness to learn orthopedic-specific positioning and imaging protocols.
  • Dependable, motivated, and receptive to instruction and feedback.
  • Basic computer skills; experience with EMR and PACS systems is preferred but not required.
  • Must meet all applicable OCC requirements for employment in a patient-care environment.
