Overview
The Recreation Center Assistant will primarily support the Field House and/or Fitness Center, while also providing secondary assistance to Student Engagement & First-Year Transitions as needed. They will deliver excellent customer service to Field House and Fitness Center members and guests while helping maintain the cleanliness and organization of the spaces. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, verifying memberships for facility access; ensuring all members and guests sign in and out; providing phone coverage for the Field House and Fitness Center; cleaning and organizing equipment; and conducting periodic walkthroughs of recreation spaces. The assistant must be a team player who is willing to cover or trade shifts and be flexible to work day, evening, and/or weekend shifts as their class schedule permits.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
- Must be a Penn College student. Required
- Must maintain 2.0 grade point average. Required
EXPERIENCE
- Previous customer service experience. Preferred
- Referee experience. Preferred

Responsibilities
- Maintain professionalism and provide a high level of customer service.
- Answer Fitness Center questions about memberships, hours, pricing, guest passes, the workout rooms and equipment of the Fitness Center, as well as inquiries related to departments' locations and various rooms that are housed in the Bush Campus Center.
- Be knowledgeable of Field House and Fitness Center rules/regulations.
- Follow check-in procedures, i.e. confirming members are signing in and out correctly, reviewing log sheets for members' guest information, and distributing equipment upon requests.
- Do laundry for the Fitness Center's towels and Student Engagement & First-Year Transitions' tablecloths.
- Answer the Field House or Fitness Center desk phone and transfer calls as needed.
- Maintain organization of the Field House or Fitness Center desk area.
- Conduct periodic walkthroughs of the locker rooms, saunas, and all fitness workout spaces.
- Distribute and assist with promotion of Campus Recreation and its events and activities through social media and other digital accounts.
- Demonstrate Fitness Center equipment to members and potential members upon request and as assigned by supervisor.
- Distribute and promote information pertaining to the Fitness Center.
- Provide tours of the Field House or Fitness Center facility, as requested.
- Referee contests and league games including intramurals.
- Assist with programs, events, and fitness challenges in the Field House or Fitness Center.
- Maintain a positive relationship with professional staff, co-workers, and members.
- Maintain high standards and achieve high expectations.
- Attend staff meetings and student development trainings as requested.
- Be knowledgeable of the College's emergency procedures and act accordingly.
- Be aware of surroundings and happenings within the Fitness Center and Campus Center, and report concerns or unusual activities to the supervisor, Student Engagement & First-Year Transitions staff, or College Police as appropriate.
- Be supportive of the College and its programs through words and actions. Encourage students to participate in Student Engagement, Campus Recreation, and College student activities.
- Assist Student Engagement & First-Year Transitions and the CC Information Desk with various tasks, including desk coverage as needed.
- Communicate with the supervisor on an ongoing basis.
