    A day in the life

Picture your day beginning with a quick safety check of the gym and fields. You review the day’s schedule, confirm van reservations, and ensure gear is staged for basketball, volleyball, and softball. By mid-morning, you’re coaching healthy habits and teamwork, modeling professionalism and positive social skills. Afternoon brings on-site supervision of mixed-skill activities, one-on-one check-ins with students who hit roadblocks, and a calm, professional response if tensions rise. You’ll close the day with activity logs and monthly report updates before coordinating tomorrow’s events and transportation.

    What you’ll do

    • Foster positive social and workplace skills by modeling appropriate behavior, offering timely interventions, and teaching healthy stress-management and employability habits.
    • Participate in the BMS and/or SCC program to reinforce community conduct, appearance, and behavior standards.
    • Lead by example—professional etiquette, punctuality, dress, and demeanor set the tone.
    • Supervise on-site recreation and fitness activities for students of varied backgrounds and abilities, maintaining a safe, supportive environment.
    • Guide self-directed activities so they align with established recreation plans.
    • Spot participation barriers and adjust processes or procedures to engage every student.
    • Plan, schedule, and oversee recurring group events (e.g., basketball, volleyball, softball), including reservations, transportation, payments, and participant communications.
    • Recommend improvements to recreation and fitness programming.
    • Support center-wide initiatives and volunteer-led events through special assignments.
    • Meet individually with students to troubleshoot everyday challenges related to recreation and fitness.
    • Offer practical guidance and solutions to routine concerns without imposing personal beliefs.
    • Prepare spaces, equipment, and supplies so every scheduled activity is ready to launch.
    • Operate government vehicles to transport students to and from off-site activities.
    • Make reservations, collect fees, and distribute information for games and events; communicate safety rules for facilities, equipment, and activities.
    • Enforce all safety policies and procedures at all times.
    • Submit required monthly recreation and related reports punctually.
    • Communicate clearly with students; answer questions; provide information, inspections, and counsel.
    • Maintain order; recognize and de-escalate social, behavioral, or disciplinary issues; and elevate complex matters to center staff.
    • Instill sportsmanship, teamwork, and positive group interaction skills.
    • Work independently on recurring assignments with minimal direction.
    • Navigate difficult conversations with professionalism and composure; build rapport even during hostile exchanges.
    • Encourage involvement from students who may initially resist leadership or direction.
    • Engage in physically demanding activities when participating in or instructing group sports.
    • Driving may be required.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    How you’ll succeed

    • Follow company SOPs and personnel policies.
    • Complete all required training per government and management directives.
    • Deliver work on time and in a cost-conscious manner.
    • Communicate effectively—verbally and in writing—with staff at all levels and with students.
    • Build strong, collaborative relationships across departments.
    • Ensure accuracy and on-time completion of departmental tasks.
    • Engage people courteously and professionally in diverse situations.
    • Work safely and follow company safety policies, including use of PPE when required.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • At least 1 year of experience working with youth.
    • Must obtain Water Safety training within 90 days of hire.
    • Must be able to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) within 90 days of employment (if applicable for the position).
    • Obtain and maintain mandatory DOT/CDL medical certification (if applicable for the position).
    • Successfully pass and participate in the mandatory DOT/CDL drug and alcohol testing program (if applicable)
    • Successfully pass any background check and/drug test required on the contract.
    • Ability to obtain & maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

    Preferred

    • Associate’s degree in counseling, social work, rehabilitation, education, recreation, or a related field.
    • Experience in a school- or parks-based recreation program.
    • Current CDL.

    Working conditions
