Position Summary:
The University of New Mexico Art Museum (UNMAM) is dedicated to advanced learning and creating connections, both in and outside of the University community. As a teaching museum, we are committed to offering students professional development and mentorship opportunities as well as access to the largest collection of artworks in New Mexico.
The Student Registrar will assist the Collections Manager in their performance of their duties as well as acting independently under the direction of the Collections Manager. The Student Registrar will work on projects and tasks in the areas of information management, creation of legal documents related to collection objects, entry of collection catalogue data, and object condition reports. The Student Registrar will also work independently on their own tasks such as researching the collection and responding to inquiries about collection objects.
A work-study award is required for this position. The ideal candidate should have T-F availability between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. This position is for the Fall and Spring semesters, with the possibility of renewal for future semesters. Occasional evening and weekend shifts may be needed.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Student Registrar will work closely with UNMAM's Collections Manager on the following activities:
Attend art handling, security, skill, and procedural trainings led by UNMAM staff
Maintain discretion with regards to sensitive information and documentation
Maintain best and safe museum practices throughout all tasks
Assist with documentation of the collection
Complete appropriate forms and documentation according to project assignment
Use of project management tool to access training and project documents and track task progress and completion
Attend project and planning meetings as needed
Research collection objects as needed
Data entry
All UNMAM student employees are cross trained in front desk operations and may be asked to assist with visitor services on occasion.
