Research Aide 1

Hourly Pay Rate: $18

The Research Aide 1 will support the department/organization in research tasks. This position deals directly with research and data. The Research Aide will work directly with Dr. Stojanovski. The work is part of the Looking In Looking Out (LILO) evaluation in Mombasa, Kenya. The LILO program is an anti LGBTQ+ stigma program led by PEMA Kenya, a local partner. Over the last year, they have been conducting the intervention.

We have collected mixed-methods data as part of the evaluation. The survey data among LILO participants to see changes over time. We also conducted interviews with LILO participants and facilitators. We have also conducted focus groups. The Research Aide will be part of Dr. Stojanovski''s research team. The primary responsibilities include data management and cleaning of the survey data collected over multiple time points. This includes recoding values, destringing, labeling variables and values, creating new variables, and using scales for summative scoring. After data cleaning, the Research Aide will be part of the data analysis, including running univariate frequencies, percentages, medians, and means. We will also conduct bivariate analyses using chi-square measures of association, t-tests, and ANOVAs. Lastly, we will conduct multivariate analyses that also address confounding. The applicant must have experience with quantitative survey data cleaning and analysis.

The Research Aide will support the coding and analysis of the qualitative data from the interviews and focus groups. The Aide will gain experience in conducting coding using Dedoose. They will also be part of the team that identifies and groups code themes to support the interpretation of the qualitative data.

The Research Aide will also support scientific publication writing of the analyses.

The position is available from the time of hire for an estimated 10 to 12 weeks of work at 20 hours per week. There is an opportunity to stay on longer if the work is going well and funding is available. The rate is set at $19 per hour for those will the desired qualifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining, cleaning, and storing lab equipment
  • Preparing solutions and samples for research purposes
  • Assisting with safety paperwork
  • Cleaning the laboratory
  • Receiving packages
  • Processing lab findings and data entry
  • Compiling instrument usage records
  • Interacting with researchers, test subjects, and/or patients
  • Answering phones and department communications
  • Scheduling and conducting interviews
  • Assisting with administrative day-to-day tasks

Qualifications:

  • Active enrollment as a student at Tulane University
  • Master''s degree student in public health or undergraduate statistics major
  • Quantitative data analysis skills--univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analyses
  • Experience and comfort with Stata or R
  • Qualitative data analysis skills--coding and synthesis
  • Experience and comfort with Dedoose, Atlasti, or NVivo
  • Experience writing scientific articles or reports
  • A Federal Work Study Award (preferred)
  • Able to provide examples of work
