Description
POSITION OBJECTIVE
Working under regular supervision, the student research assistant will plan and carry out basic biomedical laboratory research in the areas of immunology and infectious disease while providing technical and organizational support to general operations. The research projects will investigate the immune response to viral infection and inflammatory disease, using immunological and molecular biology approaches.
DUTIES
Maintain lab inventory, order reagents and/or equipment necessary for experiments. Maintain equipment, and update laboratory inventory of equipment, reagents and samples and records of maintenance. Monitoring temperature and function of equipment and maintaining LN2 levels to safeguard critical samples. Cleaning and decontaminating lab environment. Lab organization, receiving shipments of supplies and samples and storing appropriately. Delivery or pick up of samples or reagents and supplies to other labs or cores.
Assisting senior staff in performing in vitro immunologic experiments to supply scientific data regarding the immune response to viral infection, vaccination, disease using immunological and molecular biology techniques. Includes preparing lab space for experiment, setting up necessary supplies and labeling.
Collect and interpret experimental data collected and maintain meticulous records of experiments. Perform analysis of data, generate figures, summarize findings, literature search.
Perform other duties relevant to lab operations and maintenance as assigned.
HOURLY RATE
The hourly rate for this position is $15.
Undergraduate or graduate student majoring in biology, immunology, chemistry, molecular biology, genetics or a related field and 0 to 3 years of experience.
