    Position Summary

    The Yoshida Laboratory is seeking a motivated Student Research Assistant to support ongoing research in diabetes epidemiology, cardiovascular disease, aging, and precision medicine. This is a temporary, hourly position with a maximum of 20 hours per week.

    The Student Research Assistant will contribute to epidemiologic and clinical research projects using large cohort studies and electronic health record databases. Responsibilities may include data management and programming, literature reviews, statistical analyses, manuscript preparation, and other research activities as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Preferred qualifications include:

    • Background in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health, data science, or a related field
    • Experience with statistical programming (e.g., SAS, R, Stata, or Python)
    • Knowledge of epidemiologic study design and statistical methods
    • Experience in clinical, population health, or observational research
    • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
    • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a research team

    Appointment and Expectations

    • Hourly position, up to 20 hours per week
    • Paid one-month probationary period, during which both the student and the laboratory will evaluate the fit for the position.
    • At the start of the appointment, the Principal Investigator (PI) and the student will jointly develop an Individual Development Plan (IDP) outlining research responsibilities, expectations, training goals, and accountability.
    • The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate professionalism, reliability, timely communication, and a commitment to high-quality research.

    This is a temporary position. Continuation of employment is contingent upon satisfactory performance, ongoing project needs, and the availability of research funding.
