Job Description Summary
The primary duties of the Residence Life Desk Assistant are to provide receptionist services and serve as the first point of contact for the Residential Emergency Protocol at the 24-hour Front Desk. This position requires a high-level of customer service to students, staff, and visitors. Student Employee may work up to 20 hours per week.
This position also serves as a communication center during any emergency situation that may arise. The Desk Assistant reports directly to the Director of Residence Life and works collaboratively with the Resident Life Staff.

You must be enrolled at the College on a full-time or part-time basis (minimum of 6 credit hours during fall and spring semesters and 3 credit hours during the summer semester); contact hours will not be used to meet the 6 credit hour minimum.
High-school students who are dual enrolled are eligible for student employment. You must also meet the credit hour requirement.
OR
You must be enrolled or continuing your education with a four-year College partner, on the campus of SMC, and be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours and at least 1 SMC credit hour during the fall and spring semesters and 3 credit hours and at least 1 SMC credit hour during the summer semester.
All student employees must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 to be eligible for student employment.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:
A. Stooping. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
B. Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
C. Crouching. Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
D. Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
E. Standing. Particularly for sustained periods of time.
F. Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
G. Pushing. Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
H. Pulling. Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
I. Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.
J. Hand and Finger Coordination: Ability to perform tasks requiring coordinated
hand and finger movements, including typing, keyboarding, picking, pinching,
and handling small objects
K. Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
L. Feeling. Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
M. Talking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other employees accurately, loudly, or quickly.
N. Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
The employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
A. The employee is subject to environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
B. The employee is subject to outside environmental conditions. No effective protection from the weather.
