Description Benefits Job Responsibilities

Francis Marion University invites applications for a Student Services Counselor in the Financial Assistance Office whose duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Counsel students regarding Financial Assistance. • Evaluates applications for student financial aid, processes documentation as it is received and performs manual analyses of need as necessary. • Conducts high school workshops on financial assistance. • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and institutional guidelines concerning financial assistance. • Ensures accuracy of all student records. • Awards federal, state, and private grants, loans, and work programs within specified guidelines, ensuring updates are made to reflect issuance of aid. • Supports the daily operation of the Financial Assistance office.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Requirement: A bachelors degree. FMU Requirements: strong written and oral communication skills; ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot solutions; ability to work both independently and as part of a team; ability to interact confidently with the public and with colleagues from various offices.

Preferred Qualifications FMU Preferences: • previous work experience in higher education • previous work experience in a Financial Assistance office • an understanding of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) • knowledge of Federal and State Financial Aid policies • at least three years' experience in data processing • experience with MS Office Suite • experience with Ellucian (Colleague) or similar student information system
