Job Responsibilities

Francis Marion University invites applications for a Student Services Coordinator (Admissions Counselor) who will serve as a primary ambassador of the University and work extensively in the field recruiting and counseling students planning to attend college.

Student Services Coordinators spend a significant portion of their time traveling to represent FMU at high schools, college fairs, and community events throughout South Carolina, the Southeast, and other designated recruitment regions. This position requires frequent day and overnight travel, particularly during peak recruitment seasons, as well as occasional evening and weekend commitments.

Student Services Coordinators counsel prospective students and families on all aspects of the college selection and enrollment process and consult closely with high school personnel working with potential college students. The Coordinator evaluates and reviews the credentials of prospective freshman and transfer students and serves as a visible, consistent presence in assigned recruitment territories.

The role involves active participation in recruitment events that require extensive travel and sustained time on the road, representing Francis Marion University in a professional and engaging manner.

Student Services Coordinators advise and counsel students regarding financial assistance, admissions, registration, housing, academic programs, vocational interests, and related areas, both on campus and while traveling throughout their recruitment territories.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Recruiting students to FMU through established recruiting protocols, including high school visits, college fairs, telemarketing, campus programs, private visits, and formal presentations.
  • Managing an assigned recruitment territory that requires frequent travel, relationship-building, and consistent outreach to prospective students and key influencers.
  • Evaluating applications of prospective Francis Marion University students.
  • Counseling and providing detailed information to prospective students and families about the admissions process, academic programs, and campus support services.
  • Maintaining active, on-going relationships with high school students, counselors, teachers, and administrators, including regular in-person visits and classroom workshops on college preparation, college life, and career planning.
  • Working closely with FMU Alumni to promote the University throughout the community and support recruitment efforts within assigned territories, and collaborating with the Director of Admissions to assist students seeking to transfer to FMU.

Participating in on-going training to develop the professional skills needed for success in enrollment management, including territory management, recruitment travel planning, and relationship-based recruitment strategies.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Requirement: A bachelors degree.

Preferred Qualifications

FM Preferences: A bachelors degree and 1-2 years experience in college admissions work, orientation, and event planning is preferred. Knowledge of FMUs admission and financial assistance policies and procedures. Knowledge of EMAS and Ellucian software is desired. The ability to travel extensively and work a flexible schedule, with monthly weekend work.

Must have a valid Driver's License.
