Student Social Services Specialist

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES

  • Deliver Tier 1 universal screening programs and Tier 2 student classroom & small group instruction, as directed
  • Maintain and provide ongoing services for Tier 3 caseload
  • Perform appropriate, evidence-based student interventions across all MTSS tiers
  • Participate in crisis planning and response teams
  • Provide feedback and ideas based on administration of periodic school-wide and/or targeted needs assessments
  • Assist in implementing school-wide PBIS strategies
  • Run small groups based on identified needs (e.g. peer group, interpersonal conflict, peers impacted by violence, body neutrality, disordered eating patterns, etc.)
  • Help coordinate seasonal resource collection drives
  • Collect and distribute information about community resources to families
  • Provide support for students, staff, and families following traumatic events
  • Provide student crisis intervention
  • Connect identified students with appropriate agency referrals
  • Make referrals to therapy providers for students and families
  • Attend and participate in special education, absence intervention, and manifestation determination student meetings, as appropriate
  • Work collaboratively with department, teachers, principals, and other departments to provide care and advocacy for students and families
  • Effectively and sensitively engage with a wide range of diverse populations
  • Maintain accurate records and case notes in accordance with school policies and legal requirements
  • Administer various non-clinical screening tools (including the CSSRS short form)

REQUIREMENTS

Education & Credentials:

  • Bachelor's of Social Work (BSW)
  • Licensed Social Worker (LSW) from the Ohio CMFTSW
  • Have or will obtain Ohio Professional Pupil Services Registration
  • Clean FBI/BCI background check
  • School Social Work practicum/field placement

Qualifications - MUST:

  • Deliver services through a trauma-informed lens and operate with responsivity to needs of various diverse populations (professional development available)
  • Understand MTSS and RTI models
  • Work both independently and operate as part of a team
  • Be responsive to feedback and mentoring
  • Perform duties as mandated reporter (as required of all school employees)
  • Learn and adopt new skills and interventions
  • Actively engage with professional development opportunities
  • Be technologically adept and able to quickly learn how to fluently use new programs (incl. PowerSchool, Canva, Google Forms, Schoology, etc.)
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Celebrate diversity and operate through a culturally responsive lens
  • Have experience working with adolescent population (field placement qualifies)

MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT SUCCESS SPECIALIST

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES

  • Lead/co-lead classroom intervention activities targeting academic, attendance, and behavioral success
  • Collect data and identify patterns utilizing, among other tools, pre- and post-intervention surveys
  • Design materials in Canva for this purpose
  • Collaborate with Middle School Counselor on select lessons, providing both creative and technological collaboration
  • Run small groups based on identified needs (e.g. academic success and study skills, attendance intervention, behavioral support, peer groups, interpersonal conflict, boundaries and consent, etc.)
  • Connect with and assist in the middle school classroom environment
  • Make connections with middle school youth as a relatable trusted adult
  • Assist in delivering universal screening programs, as directed
  • Identify and maintain a small caseload of students who require individual intervention
  • Attend and participate in special education, absence intervention, and manifestation determination meetings for students on caseload
  • Provide feedback and ideas based on administration of periodic school-wide and/or targeted needs assessments
  • Assist in implementing school-wide PBIS strategies
  • Help with seasonal resource collection drives and distribute information about community resources to families
  • Provide support for students and families following traumatic events
  • Effectively and sensitively engage with a wide range of diverse populations

REQUIREMENTS

Education & Credentials:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling, or related field [Required]
  • Social Work (BSW) Strongly Preferred
  • Have or will obtain Ohio Professional Pupil Services License/Registration [Required]
  • Clean FBI/BCI background check [Required]
