Student Success Coach TRIO

DESCRIPTION:

Edmonds College has a federal grant from the United States Department of Education to run a TRIO Student Support Services program. The program¿s goals are to increase the retention, graduation, and transfer rates of low-income and first-generation college students and students with disabilities. Federal TRIO programs are designed to motivate and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The program serves 160 Edmonds College students each year. Through TRIO, students receive individualized attention and support, with services including academic advising, financial aid assistance, one-on-one tutoring, instruction in basic study skills, transfer assistance, personal support, mentoring, service learning activities, and information about career options.

Under the general direction of the TRIO Director, the Student Success Coach is responsible for providing academic and personal support services to eligible students with the goal of increasing student retention, graduation, and transfer rates, along with programmatic support responsibilities. TRIO has a commitment to recruitment, student success and completion for all students.

This is an exempt position that reports to the TRIO Director.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Engage with students, complete intakes, and manage a caseload of up to 65 to 70 students, provide wrap-around support services including: advising, financial aid, and transfer assistance.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to serve first-gen, students with disabilities, and low-income students.
  • Document interactions and meetings with students through the Student Access System.
  • Meet at least twice a quarter with each student on your caseload.
  • Recruit enrolled students to the program and successfully serve participants per grant guidelines
  • Complete student assessments and develop the Individualized Student Success Plan (ISP).
  • Assist in the processing of new student applications and ensure compliance with all federal regulations.
  • Apply federal regulations, legislation, and TRIO grant requirements to all job tasks
  • Monitor and track the academic progress and performance of the program and assist with completion of the federal annual performance report for the Department of Education.
  • Assist with cultural events, workshop development and facilitation with an emphasis on academic, financial aid/literacy, transfer, and study skill workshops.
  • Participate in the recruitment of potential TRIO students on and off campus at campus events, classroom visits, and other campus department locations.
  • Assist with getting first-generation Passport to College students into the TRIO program and meeting student success goals.
  • Other duties as assigned related to meeting the needs of the program.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate Degree or equivalent work experience, such as case management, student and/or community engagement, student navigation, advising, etc.
  • At least six months to one year of case management experience.
  • At least one year of working in higher education with college students or a non-profit that works with a similar population.
  • Ability to work effectively and engage with individuals with backgrounds similar to the target population.
  • Proficiency in the use of Google Workspace.
  • Strong verbal, listening, communication, and problem-solving skills.

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is typically performed in an office setting, and onsite/in-person. The ability to sit at a desk/computer station, bend, stoop, walk and generally move around the office to consult with others, work within a busy environment and remain focused on tasks. The ability to speak clearly on the telephone, use a computer is required. Recurring early/late hours (weekend/early morning/evening meetings). Some tasks require lifting and moving of objects up to 30lbs.

COMPENSATION:

Salary is $50,800.35 - $55,417.52 and is based on the Edmonds College administrative/exempt salary schedule, plus a full state benefits package, which includes tuition waivers for college classes, medical, dental, retirement options and more. Vacation and leave package includes 12 sick days per year, 11 scheduled holidays, 1 personal holiday, and 24 vacation leave days per year.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., including some evenings and weekends.

FLSA Status:

The position is an exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act requirements.
