DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Coaching & Student Success

  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and intervention to future and current students and refers them to appropriate services including academic advising, and financial aid; as well as faculty, counselors, and other college support services
  • Case manages targeted students and supports them in the onboarding process including, admissions, placement, orientation, financial aid, academic advising, and first term success
  • Supports new student orientations and case manages participants who need additional support and guidance
  • Participates in and represents Chemeketa at recruitment and outreach events including college/career fairs, campus visits, and community, agency, business, and high school events
  • Targets outreach efforts to non-traditional populations including underserved communities and adult learners
  • Has broad understanding of community resources for high needs students including housing, financial assistance and healthcare

Collaboration

  • Works directly with Student Success Center, Admissions, Advising, College Access Programs, and other student services teams to facilitate the enrollment and retention of students requiring additional support
  • Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with high school and community partners
  • Collaborates with academic and support departments, as well as the college's network of community partners, to ensure new and current students - especially those facing multiple barriers - are supported in achieving their academic goals

Program Support

  • Evaluates the unique needs high needs students, strategizes and explores options for resolution or support that may fall outside normal processes, practices or policies
  • Collects and enters data into appropriate database; creates, distributes and presents reports; analyzes student feedback and makes recommendations for improvements
  • Participates in summer bridge programming activities for students transitioning from high school or GED to college

Institutional Expectations

  • Embraces diversity and actively collaborates effectively with a variety of students, staff and the public from diverse cultural, social, economic and educational backgrounds
  • Participates in recruitment and retention of students at an individual and institutional level in promotion of student success
  • Embraces, understands and uses appropriate technology tools to accomplish job functions
  • Provides high quality, effective service to internal and external customers through continuous improvement and adoption of lean office practices

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

This level requires an equivalency of two (2) years of full-time work experience related to the essential functions and duties of the position listed above.

  • OR-

An Associates Degree in Social Sciences, Human Services, Human Development or a related field.

Core Competencies:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of community college systems and philosophy
  • Recognize when client/student referral is appropriate/necessary
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population of student/clients
  • Work independently and as a team member
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of technology and student communication and information systems
  • Bicultural/multicultural skills sufficient to select appropriate behaviors, values and attitudes within different cultures during interactions with others

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Experience providing services to underserved communities or adult learners
  • Similar background to that of students
  • Experience providing support to at-risk students in a post-secondary setting

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This is a 100%, 12-month classified assignment at the level 13 pay grade.
  • This position has a 6-month probationary period
  • All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
  • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
  • This position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations
  • If requested, requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire
  • Employees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.
  • Successful applicants for designated positions must successfully pass a background inquiry, which may include criminal, driving, credit and full background checks. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary requirements are met.
