Job Description

Our Student Supervisor plays a vital role on the Shorewood High School campus, maintaining a positive environment, enforcing school policies, and fostering a welcoming atmosphere while supporting students'' academic and social development. With multiple buildings and an open campus environment, the Student Supervisor is an essential resources for students and staff during the school day. The role emphasizes building positive relationships with students, resolving conflicts, and promoting a safe and inclusive campus culture.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Supervision & Administrative Support: Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other staff to maintain a safe, welcoming and inclusive campus environment.

  • Manage assigned areas, including hallways, classrooms, lunch service, library/media center, and outdoor spaces to maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Monitor student behavior and enforce school rules and policies in a fair and respectful manner.
  • Assist with student check-ins, tardiness tracking, and other school and student services processes.
  • Support events by supervising attendees and ensuring orderly conduct.

Conflict Resolution & Student Support: Build positive relationships with students, encouraging respectful and responsible behavior.

  • Address and resolve conflicts among students using de-escalation techniques and restorative practices and assist students in resolving issues or concerns, referring them to appropriate staff (e.g., counselors, administrators) as necessary.
  • Report incidents, concerns, or rule violations to appropriate personnel and submit reports as required.

Emergency Response: Assist with responding to emergencies, such as medical incidents, fights, or unauthorized visitors, following established protocols for reporting and managing emergencies, including notifying law enforcement or medical personnel when appropriate, and assisting with drills and preparedness exercises (e.g., fire, tornado, emergency response, or evacuation drills).

  • Must remain calm and composed in stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn de-escalation and conflict-resolution techniques.
  • Demonstrate strong convictions and support for the District and Department's mission, vision, and goals.
  • Possess a racial and cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Work positively, effectively, and ethically with the community, students, parents, and District personnel.
  • Perform duties with awareness of all District requirements as well as Board and District policies and guidelines.
