Job Title: Student Support Staff - Elementary School

Location: Spindale Elementary School

Reports To: Principal

Job Summary:

The Student Support Staff member works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and other school personnel to support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct academic and behavioral support to students individually or in small groups, as directed by classroom teachers or support staff.

  • Assist in implementing and monitoring support plans, including interventions related to academics, behavior, attendance, and emotional wellness.

  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to support student needs through coordinated services and communication.

  • Help identify students in need of additional support and contribute to planning and delivering appropriate interventions.

  • Promote positive relationships and a safe learning environment by modeling respectful behavior and encouraging student engagement.

  • Monitor student progress and assist with documentation and data collection for academic and behavioral goals.

  • Participate in professional development related to academic support, trauma-informed practices, positive behavior supports, and other student-centered strategies.

  • Support students during transitions, arrival/dismissal, and non-instructional times to promote consistency and structure.

  • Provide mentoring, encouragement, and problem-solving strategies to help students build confidence and resilience.

  • Serve as a link between students and school staff to promote open communication and a strong sense of belonging.
