Reports To: Managing Director of Guidance and Counseling Work Year Days: 215 Primary Purpose:

Work with school faculty and staff, students, parents, and community to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive counseling program, mandated character and state education, Tier 2 and 3 Counseling Supports, and crisis-intervention counseling programs at assigned campuses.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:
Valid TX Teacher Certificate preferred

Master’s Degree in Counseling or School Counseling preferred
Licensed Professional Counseling (LPC) certificate preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:    
Expertise and training in running groups and group dynamics
Exceptional interpersonal and problem-solving skills
Reflect the confidence, knowledge, and maturity needed to face the most complex adolescent issues
Demonstrate and convey a professional, positive, and ethical image
Work effectively with school counselors, staff members, parents, students, and community members
 
Experience:
Minimum two years of experience teaching preferred

Minimum two years school counseling or behavioral health preferred
Experience with adolescent depression, anger management, bullying prevention, substance abuse prevention, eating disorders, grief and loss, and parent and/or peer relationship

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Support district Whole Child philosophy.
Coordinate school prevention programs, classroom presentations, and responsive services regarding drug, alcohol, and substance abuse.
Provide crisis intervention services to students and their families.
Provide bullying prevention trainings.
Support safe school climate committee trainings and campus meetings.
Provide training and staff development for school staff members regarding drug and violence issues.
Perform consultations, assessments, and referrals to appropriate outside agencies.
Attend local and regional meetings and staff developments regarding mental health-related topics.
Assist schools during crisis situations.
Serve as a resource and a referral to the community for information.
Provide one-on-one supportive guidance and lead student support groups when appropriate.
Assist in education and training for districtwide programs and professional development.
Work with all campuses within the assigned school zone on a scheduled basis.
Maintain appropriate student logs.
Develop and/or deliver classroom presentations with specific guidelines and objectives related to state-mandated topics as needed.
Support campus counselors in efforts of comprehensive programming, including but not limited to professional development.

Support campus counselors and teachers in the implementation of Whole Child Development.

Coordinate with the District and campus regarding the implementation of Whole Child and other initiatives from the Guidance and Counseling department.

Other Duties as Assigned:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.  Occasional prolonged or irregular hours. District wide travel may be necessary.
