Title of Position: STUDENT SUPPORT COORDINATOR

SUMMER DISCOVERY ACADEMY

Work Year: July 6, 2026 - July 30, 2026

Monday - Thursday

7:30 am to 12:00 pm - Nettle Middle School

Trainings in June - Dates TBD

Effective Date of Employment: Immediately Upon Appointment

Salary: $40/hour (if for any reason the candidate selected does not complete the appointment, compensation will be prorated based upon time served)

Organizational Relationship

or Line of Authority: Director of Out-of-School Time Programming

In Collaboration with the Offices of Title I and Title III

Statement of Duties:

  • Provide counseling and support to designated special needs students and their families.
  • Provide individual and group counseling to designated special needs students as stated on their educational plans.
  • Conduct home visits as requested.
  • Participate in crisis intervention.
  • Consult on a regular basis with classroom teachers regarding special needs students.
  • Establish lines of communication and a good working relationship with area human service agencies.
  • Coordinate with the Supervisor of Attendance in regard to CHINS petitions, 51As, etc.
  • Responsible for other general duties as indicated by the Director of Special Education, the Building Principal, directives of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee and policies of the School Committee.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed as a School Adjustment Counselor/Social Worker by Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education - Required.
  • Master's Degree in Social Work or Counseling - Preferred.
  • Ability to provide individual and small group counseling to the school-age population.
  • Ability to work closely and harmoniously with parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Ability to conduct home visits and to write developmental histories.
  • Knowledge of special education programs and laws.
  • Knowledge of area mental health services.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
