Major Responsibilities and Duties Student Support Specialist Job Description
- Implement a plan for high school graduation with at-risk students
- Provide crisis counseling and consultation
- Facilitate communication between counselors, administrators and staff members to increase high school graduation and reduce drop-out rate
- Implement research-based support programs such as mentoring, peer mediation and social and emotional skills to enhance student success and increase high school completion
- Identify students who have dropped out and provide resources and support to encourage reengagement in school and attain high school completion
- Serve as a liaison with the school counselors, homebound teachers, social workers, Community Youth Services worker, school nurse, special education team and other student support services
- Compile and analyze data concerning students served
- Participate in Student System of Support meetings and coordinate Community Schools services
- Counsel and serve as a resource person for parents regarding problems affecting the educational, physical, social and emotional growth of the student
- Work with appropriate agencies, community groups, and school organizations
- Maintain student confidentiality
- Participate in the facilitation of School PBIS - Tier One, Tier Two, Tier Three
- Participate in the facilitation of MTSS - Tier One, Tier Two, Tier Three
- Analyze discipline and attendance data to identify needs and assist with developing and implementing plans to address high school completion
- Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
