JOB SUMMARY
The Student Support Specialist (SSS) supports students and staff, helping the school maintain a safe and supportive school environment. The SSS is highly visible within the school building. The SSS is responsible for assisting with behavioral incidents and collaborating with the Assistant Principal and Manager of Student Services to track and manage data related to student behavior. They provide routine supervision of hallways, student arrival and dismissal, and the cafeteria.
In addition, this staff member acts as a substitute teacher when teachers are absent and acts as a proctor during state and benchmark assessment testing.
The SSS is an active and integral member of the Student Services Team.
The SSS is responsible for contributing to a respectful school culture that exemplifies the Sizer Six and for providing staff with the needed tools and support to maintain classroom management.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES (May include but not limited to): Supports the Assistant Principal and other members of the Student Services Team in ensuring a safe and orderly school environment, including supporting the management of student issues, behavioral concerns, and crises; Monitors common areas during student arrival, hallway transitions, lunches, and afternoon dismissal; assists with locking and unlocking student bathrooms; Supports student academic achievement and positive behavior at the direction of the Manager of Student Services, the Assistant Principal and/or Principal; Assists the REACH Coach with supervising and supporting students who have been placed on disciplinary restriction, including in-school suspension and lunch reflections; Assists with coordinating work retrieval for students placed on in-school suspension and provides appropriate academic support; When appropriate, provides in-class coaching to improve student behavior and academic performance/achievement; Acts as a substitute classroom teacher as needed; Proctors and assists with administering academic testing; Models appropriate behavior and displays professional conduct at all times; Prepares documents and reports and maintains files that contain sensitive and confidential information; Models and encourages community practices that are consistent with the Common Principles of the Coalition of Essential Schools; Adheres to the policies and procedures of Sizer School; maintains the confidentiality of student information at all times; Remains highly visible during school hours, specifically in hallways during transitions and in common areas; Reports concerns to an administrator in a professional and timely manner; and All other duties as assigned.
