We are seeking an experienced technology leader to lead the technical team responsible for Ellucian Banner and the applications and integrations that support the student experience across USC. As our Student Systems Technical Team Manager, you will lead a talented team of technical professionals, influence the direction of critical enterprise systems, modernize and improve how we deliver technology, and partner with university leaders and functional teams to solve meaningful problems. The Student Systems Technical Team Managerprovides technical and people leadership for the team responsible for the development, configuration, integration, maintenance, and production support of USCs core student systems. The position leads a team of six technical professionals supporting Ellucian Banner, along with related technologies such as DegreeWorks, Banner Document Management, batch processing, integrations, and other applications supporting the student lifecycle. This is more than a day-to-day application support role. You will help set the technical direction for USCs student systems, establish strong development and production-support practices, improve automation and integration, reduce technical debt, and ensure these mission-critical systems remain reliable and secure. You will work closely with partners in areas such as Admissions, the Registrar, Financial Aid, and other university organizations to translate business needs into sustainable technical solutions. Key Responsibilities - Lead and develop a high-performing technical team responsible for USCs Student Systems applications. - Provide technical leadership for Ellucian Banner, DegreeWorks, Banner Document Management, batch processing, integrations, and related technologies. - Oversee the development, configuration, testing, deployment, maintenance, and continuous improvement of student systems. - Ensure reliable day-to-day operations of mission-critical systems, including production troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, upgrades, patches, and performance management. - Lead technical projects involving new functionality, integrations, enhancements, upgrades, and data migrations. - Establish and continuously improve development, testing, documentation, change management, source/code management, and production-support standards. - Partner with functional organizations and stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective, maintainable technical solutions. - Manage vendors and third-party technology providers and coordinate their work with university technical and functional teams. - Protect the security, integrity, privacy, and availability of student information, including adherence to FERPA and university IT policies. - Build strong relationships with university customers through responsive support, clear communication, accountability, and a service-oriented approach. What Were Looking For - Bachelors degree and 5+ years of relevant professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and experience. - At least 2 years of experience managing or supervising technical professionals. - Significant experience supporting a Student Information System, with 5+ years of Ellucian Banner Student experience strongly preferred. - Strong technical knowledge of databases, SQL, system integrations, APIs/interfaces, data management, and enterprise application architecture. - Experience with application development and the full software development lifecycle, including design, testing, deployment, maintenance, and change management. - Experience planning and executing enterprise application upgrades, patches, configuration changes, and production deployments. - Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex production application and integration problems and lead effective root-cause analysis. - A leadership style that develops people, encourages collaboration, builds technical depth, and holds teams accountable for results. - Strong customer-service orientation and the ability to build trusted relationships with both technical and nontechnical partners. - Ability to communicate complex technology issues clearly to audiences ranging from developers to functional leaders and senior management. - Commitment to security, documentation, operational discipline, continuous improvement, and reliable production support. Preferred Qualifications - Minimum of 2 years managerial experience. - Experience with Student Information Systems (e.g., Banner, PeopleSoft or similar). - Strong knowledge of databases (SQL), system integrations, and data management. - 5+ years Banner Student Systems experience.
