Student Tutor - Independent Contractor

Damar Support Services is looking for talented Student Tutors to work as independent contractors. Our Independent contractors will provide individualized academic support to students to help them improve understanding of subject material, complete assignments, and develop effective study skills. Our Tutors work collaboratively with students, families, Department of Child Services, and program staff to promote academic success and confidence.

Pay: 

Starting at $30/hr

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

What you need to be considered:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required
  • Prior tutoring, teaching, or mentoring experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge in subject area(s) being tutored
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and learning styles
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping students succeed
  • At least 21 years old
  • No felony convictions or other criminal offences

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with children and/or adolescents
  • Familiarity with curriculum standards and educational technology
  • Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet individual needs
  • Experience with virtual tutoring platforms (if applicable)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

What you would be doing: 

 

  • Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions in assigned subject areas
  • Develop plans to meet the child’s literacy and tutoring needs
  • Advocate for the child during Child and Family Team Meetings and Individualized Education Plans conferences
  • Assist with homework, test preparation, and skill-building activities
  • Collaborate with workers in other disciplines and access community resources
  • Reinforce classroom instruction and help clarify concepts
  • Track student progress and maintain accurate documentation of sessions
  • Encourage positive study habits, time management, and organizational skills
  • Maintain a supportive, respectful, and engaging learning environment
  • Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and confidentiality standards
