The Student \u2013 Tutor-Writing position works in the Writing Center to provide academic writing support to their Stevenson University undergraduate peers. Primary responsibilities include meeting with students in one-on-one sessions, offering support at various stages of the writing process, and participating in relevant training and professional development opportunities.
Education/Experience
Currently enrolled at Stevenson University and in good academic and judicial standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preferred that students successfully complete ENG 222 with a grade of B or higher. Students may be considered without ENG 222 upon approval by the Director of the Writing Center.

- Tutors must be attentive and sensitive to students' needs and learning goals.
- Show commitment to the students.
- Show a commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
- Must demonstrate reliability by attending all scheduled sessions or communicating in advance of any cancellations.
- Inform the Link staff of any questions or concerns in dealing with tutees.
- Must maintain confidentiality regarding student work and academic progress.
Physical Requirements
Light work: including the following physical activities: stationary position, occasionally move about inside the office to access supplies and office machinery, operate a computer, calculator, printer, and whiteboard, communicate and exchange accurate information and ideas so others will understand, observe and inspect details at close range. Working conditions are primarily inside.
Essential Functions
- Provide one-on-one support for students at any stage of the writing process through scheduled appointments and/or drop-in hours.
- Assist students in understanding assignment expectations and improving writing strategies.
- Support students in developing research, drafting, and revision techniques.
- Maintain accurate and timely communication with faculty and the Director of the Writing Center.
- Attend all required meetings and professional development sessions.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and Writing Center Activities.
- Serve as liaison to first-year writing courses, when applicable.
- Help students to access additional resources or services when appropriate.
- Attend scheduled tutor training workshops (dates TBA each semester).
- Maintain confidentiality of student, department, and University.
