Job Summary

As a Volunteer Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience in nonprofit operations while making a meaningful impact in your community. This role is ideal for students, recent graduates, or anyone looking to explore careers in social work, human resources, public health, nonprofit management, or community engagement.

Pay: $12/hour

Location: Merrillville, IN

Position Type: Volunteer Coordinator / Internship

Schedule: Flexible hours- Monday through Friday (minimum 8 hours/week preferred)

Reports To: Volunteer Manager

About Us

Since 1977, Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana has delivered over 10 million meals to neighbors in need- seniors, people with disabilities, veterans, children, cancer patients, pregnant women, and others facing barriers to nutrition and social connection.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily meal delivery coordination, logistics, and route planning
  • Support volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and appreciation efforts
  • Help manage client records and update service documentation
  • Participate in community outreach and fundraising events
  • Contribute to social media, newsletters, and marketing campaigns
  • Provide administrative support to staff as needed

Qualifications

  • Passion for serving older adults and vulnerable populations
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office)
  • Reliable transportation (preferred but not required)
  • Must pass background check

  • PNW Work-Study Student
