Function
The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for assisting the lead instructor in the lab.
Organizational Relationship
The Laboratory Assistant will report directly to the assigned course instructor and is responsible for the successful and timely completion of assigned duties. The Laboratory Assistant works under the direct supervision of the course instructor(s) during all laboratory activities and supports laboratory, and operational functions as directed.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist course faculty with instructional and administrative tasks, including exam preparation, grading support, data entry, tutoring, and laboratory-related activities.
- Support instructional delivery by observing faculty lectures and assisting with the development of supplementary materials such as review guides, answer keys, and visual or specimen-based instructional aids.
- Ensure proper setup, maintenance, and breakdown of anatomy laboratory sessions, including preparation of specimens, equipment, and teaching materials.
- Enforce laboratory safety policies and professional conduct standards to maintain a safe, respectful, and educational learning environment.
- Assist with the development, proctoring, and grading of practical and written examinations, and accurately record and post grades in accordance with course and institutional policies.
- Provide academic support to students during scheduled office hours and respond to student inquiries via email to reinforce understanding of course content.
- Coordinate acquisition and organization of instructional materials and laboratory supplies to ensure smooth and uninterrupted course instruction.
- The LTA will comply with departmental policies and regulations
- The LTA will be under the supervision of the course instructor(s) during all classroom and laboratory activities
Skills and Qualifications
Required
Enrolled as a full-time student in trimester 8 and above with at least a 3.0 GPA.
Grade of 'A' or 'B' in all previous graduate level anatomy coursework.
