Student Worker - Mail Center

Job Summary:

The Mail Center is responsible for various aspects of receiving, warehousing, delivering (walking and driving) and sending mail and packages for Faculty, Staff, students and members of the community. As a USPS Contract Postal Unit, we are permitted to sell stamps for cash, thus the need to calculate and apply the correct amount of postage to any outgoing mail/packages that are not being shipped under a University Postage Account. We are the face of Delaware Valley University to anyone who comes to our window, so we need to keep a clean and professional environment. No two days are the same, so we need to be flexible, ready to help and think outside the box at times. A van is available to drive provided that the employee has a current license and can pass the driving record review and, subsequently, the online and practical exams. Our office also employs students in the Work Study program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Be present and ready to work on time.
• Scan all incoming items using PackageX Receive software on provided iPads.
• Legibly mark and alphabetically organize all student items on labeled shelves and in labeled crates.
• Legibly mark and organize all Faculty/Staff items in labeled allocated locations.
• Deliver mail and packages to assigned locations. Sign out delivered packages on iPad in the office.
• Bring back any outgoing items from assigned locations and put in allocated places in the office.
• Be ready to help at the window.
• Facilitate student mail/package pickups.
• Accurately calculate a cash transaction, give correct change, apply proper postage to any outgoing mail/packages and mark it on the daily log sheet.
• Periodically check for proper organization in the warehouse.
• Make sure the workspace is clean and tidy when the shift is over.
• Other duties as assigned

Education Employment eligibility:

• Currently enrolled Delaware Valley University student
• Must be authorized to work in the United States and provide required documentation to verify identity and employment eligibility

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Good customer service skills
• Time management
• Cash handling experience a plus
• Basic math
• Team player
• If applicable, clean driver's license and ability to safely operate and maneuver the van.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Ability to walk long distances, stand for a period of time, stoop, bend and turn from side to side
• Exposure to outdoor weather during deliveries
• Frequently lifting 25 lbs or less
• Occasionally lifting 25 lbs or more
• Temperature controlled office
• Carpeted flooring
• Water cooler, refrigerator and microware available in office
• Public restrooms available in the lobby
