Job Description:

The Moody Makerspace is seeking a creative, friendly, and outgoing individual with a passion for educating others about "making." The Moody Makerspace allows students, faculty, and staff access to creative tools and equipment, including 3D printers, laser engravers, vinyl cutters, embroidery machines, bike repair, and various hand and powered tools. Maker Mentors oversee the use of this equipment and provide help and guidance to patrons as they realize their projects. They regularly assist students, faculty, and staff through brainstorming, teaching, and assisting with equipment and tool use throughout the life of the project.

A good Maker Mentor is one who does not shy away from trying new things, is quick to make friends with new people, and who will actively go in search of the answer when presented with a unique challenge. Maker Mentors welcome others to the world of making with enthusiasm and an encouraging demeanor.

Responsibilities include:

• Consulting with patrons on making activities for both academic and personal projects.
• Training patrons on the use of the various tools and equipment.
• Providing excellent customer service to patrons.
• Cleaning and organizing the space according to assigned shift duties.
• Staffing the Makerspace during open hours.
• Facilitating Makerspace orientations, workshops, and trainings.
• Helping with Makerspace functions around campus.
• Assisting with training new employees.
• Assisting with various projects, activities and tasks related to the Makerspace (Booths at Freshman Orientation, Diadeloso, Christmas on 5th Street, etc.)
• Continually improving upon personal skills and familiarity with the available equipment.
• Completing all assigned training in a punctual manner.
• Maintaining regular and punctual attendance.

Preferred skills:

• Strong social skills and good communication.
• Curiosity and a love of learning.
• Ability to prioritize and take initiative.
• Natural inclination towards cleanliness and good organization.
• Experience with engineering, robotics, design, or working in a shop environment is a plus.
