Student Worker - Marine Engine Digital Twin Development (Python)
New technology. Great potential. Help us unlock it.
Everllence is exploring digital twins to improve development, diagnostics, and day-to-day operations of some of the world's largest marine engines. In practice, this means developing marine engine simulations that run together with the same engine control software that operates on the actual engine, reproducing real engine behaviour in real-time. These digital twins can be used to test operating scenarios, evaluate control strategies, and support engineering decisions.
The position is part of an ongoing industrial PhD project focused on real-time marine engine digital twins. The core technology already exists; the challenge now is to transform a promising research prototype into a practical engineering tool that can be used across multiple engine platforms. This is where you come in.
We are looking for someone to help automate, validate, and scale this framework. In practice, this means making it easier to set up and use these digital twins. You will also support the exploration of new applications to bring this technology closer to real-world use.
What you will do
The project also seeks to explore data-driven modelling of complex engine processes, such as combustion and scavenging, with the goal of developing real-time engine behaviour models. This area offers several interesting research opportunities and could form the basis of a master's thesis project.
A day in your new role
You meet with the project leader to discuss ongoing work and identify opportunities to improve the digital twin development process. Together, you define small technical tasks that can reduce manual work and make the overall setup of a digital-twin more efficient.
Later, you work on automating the setup of a simulation scenario used to verify that a digital twin behaves as expected. While reviewing the results, you notice a discrepancy between the simulated and expected behaviour. You document your findings and discuss possible causes and solutions with the team.
It is hands-on, technical work at the intersection of software development, simulation, and engineering research - and there is always someone available to help when you get stuck.
We imagine that you:
Bonus qualifications:
Welcome to ECSSIM
As part of the ECSSIM team in the LDED department at Everllence, you will contribute to the development of virtual large marine engines. The work focuses on bridging simulation, software, and engineering to support the development, testing, and validation of engine technologies.
You will work closely with a PhD researcher who is leading the development of the digital twin framework. He combines experience in simulation, marine engine technology and mentoring, and is committed to creating an environment where curiosity, learning, and technical growth are encouraged.
What we bring to the table
